KEYNOTE SPEAKERS:
Barbara Resnick, PhD, RN, CRNP, FAAN, FAANP is the current President of the American Geriatrics Society. Her research interests focus on care of the older adult and include: health promotion and disease prevention; outcomes following rehabilitation, functional performance, and a special focus on motivation related to functional activities and exercise behavior, and testing outcomes of restorative care nursing programs and other innovative long-term care projects. Dr. Resnick has over 150 articles published in nursing and/or medical journals, numerous chapters in nursing and medical textbooks related to care of the older adult, and a book on Restorative Care Nursing.
Ronald Shorr, MD M.S. is Professor of Aging and Geriatrics at the University of Florida College of Medicine. He is Director, of the Geriatric Research, Education, and Clinical Center (GRECC), North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System (NF/SGVHS) and is an Associate Investigator for the Rehabilitation Outcomes Research Center (RORC REAP). His research interests focus on Accidental Falls, Pharmacoeconomics, Pharmacoepidemiology and Adverse Drug Events.

This conference is planned for nurses, educators, physicians, physician assistants, social workers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and all professionals addressing the aging population and building partnerships in communities.

PROGRAM GOAL:
This 2 day conference is planned to bring together healthcare professionals interested in improving the care of the growing numbers of older adults in our communities through collaboration and the enhancement of the professional's foundation of gerontology. The sessions will be led by experts who have experience locally and nationally. They will share up to date information on geriatric issues.
Posters will address community programs, outreach efforts, prevention, interventions, and research

CONFERENCE OBJECTIVES:
This conference will provide an opportunity for participants to:
- Explore unintended weight loss in the older adult.
- Outline best nutrition practices in older adults.
- Discuss the philosophy of health promotion across
the aging continuum.
- Interpret and use health guidelines for older adults
across the aging continuum.
- Explore epidemiology and risk factors for falls in
hospital settings.
- Discuss current research and strategies to reduce
falls and fractures in people who are aging.
- Provide evidence-based knowledge critical to the
management of older adults who have hearing loss.
- Identify 3 ways to utilize standardized patients in
education and assessment.
- Establish a forum for exchange of ideas and
clinical experience with expert faculty and
colleagues specializing in the care of older adults.

- This activity has been approved for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit.

- The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Texas Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.
This education program offers up to 15.0 nursing contact hours.

- Occupational Therapy CE credit has been applied for.

- Physical Therapy CE credit has been applied for.

- Application has been made to the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) for continuing education contact hours for respiratory therapist.
